Mabel Montalva

Welcome to  I am Mabel Montalva, an LDS Latina woman, entrepreneur, Apparel Technical Designer, blogger,  and business owner. But first and foremost, I am a wife and mother of three children, sixteen-year-old twins, Alexandra and Robert, and three and a half year old, Karla.

Twenty years ago, I immigrated to the United States and lived in Northern Utah until recently. I currently live in Henderson Nevada. This wasn’t a move that I wanted to make. It was a sacrifice I made to help my husband pursue his career goals. I was happy in Utah. Surrounded by friends and family, I felt successful in trying to make a place in the competitive fashion industry. In 2009 I was featured as one of The 10 Coolest Entrepreneurs of Utah Valley by Utah Business Q Magazine.

This blog is born out of my desire to rebuild a support community while I continue to share my talents and challenge stereotypes of being, Latina, LDS, a wife, a mother, and a homemaker. I want this to be a place I can share my expertise as a fashion apparel technical designer. This is a way I can relabel the preconceived notion of what a Latina, LDS woman can do. In addition to fashion trends and clothing, this is a place to find delicious recipes as well as a place to showcase my personal designs. Modesty and wholesome values are always at the heart of my designs.

My passion and love for fashion began at a very early age. Growing up, my parents owned a clothing factory in Chile. After finishing high school, I traveled to Europe to study in a Fashion Design school and Industrial Pattern making Academy called, Escuela Guerrero. For my final project, I was awarded the 1st prize and a scholarship from my school.

My husband, Roberto and I own a product development firm, Savvy Apparel Studio LLC, Our company takes initial design concepts through the product development process and gets them ready for production. I make dreams come true when I turn my client’s ideas into actual products!

The design studio has been involved in the development of collections being sold by big retailers such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Costco, Walmart. Here are some of the other companies we have worked with in the past: Hapari, Modbod, Persnickety, Downeast, Undertease, Shade Clothing, Leanne Barlow, Tom Girls Clothing, Savvy Curls, MeSheeky, Fully Involved Stitching, Raising Wild, My Wild Bird to name a few. Currently, our biggest ongoing client is Barbell Apparel.

Come follow me and be a part of an uplifting community of love and support!
